In 2009, household hazardous waste management costs averaged $0.60 per pound under the City of Madison/Dane County Clean Sweep program. Currently, the program is funded with tipping fee revenues collected at the Dane County Landfill. If this funding were to become unavailable, it may become necessary to create a user fee system at the Clean Sweep facility to fund the program. Latex paint recycling consumes a large portion of the Clean Sweep budget each year. Dried latex paint is non-hazardous and can legally and safely be disposed of with other household trash.
